Packing box

A device for securing a steam-tight, air-tight, or water-tight joint about a movable rod. It consists of two parts or glands held together by bolts and so arranged that packing of some kind can be inserted between the glands and compressed, by means of tightening the nuts on the bolts, against the movable rod. Same as stuffing box.
