A long, round piece, strip, or bar of metal. A surveyor's tool for finding the difference in elevation between two points, used in connection with a level. As ordinarily constructed, it consists of two flat strips of wood, arranged to slide upon each other and having the exposed faces graduated into feet and tenths, or in some cases, feet, inches, and fractions of an inch.
