Mechanics

The science of force and its effect upon matter. While the word was originally used to mean the theory of machines, it has, by extension, come to denote the doctrine of force and the resulting motions or tendencies to motion of particles and systems of particles. As such, it is the fundamental one of all the physical sciences.
