Critical examination. Close or careful survey of work, materials, etc.

There are several types of inspections, each of them having different goals. The goal of construction inspection is to determine that the structure is build according to the contract documents. The goal of inspection of existing structure is to assess the existing condition and identify issues requiring attention.
