Vereschagin's Rule

Vereschagin's rule enables to easily calculate the integral

<tex>\int_0^L M \overline{M} dx</tex>

that is needed to solve statically indeterminate structures using the flexibility method.

The integral can be calculated as follows:

<tex>\int_0^L M \overline{M} dx = A_M \overline{M}_{cg}</tex>

where

  • <tex>A_M</tex> is the area under the curve M
  • <tex>\overline{M}_{cg}</tex> is value of <tex>\overline{M}</tex> at the location of center of gravity of the area <tex>A_M</tex>

The value of <tex>\overline{M}_{cg}</tex> must be determined for a constant or linear function.
