The following notation is used throughout the dynamics topics:

$c$ ... damping coefficient (kN-sec/m)
$c_{c}$ ... critical damping coefficient (kN-sec/m)
$m$ ... mass (kg)
$\xi$ ... critical damping ratio (unitless)
$\omega$ ... undamped natural circular frequencies (rad/sec)
$\omega _{D}$ ... free-vibration frequency of damped system (rad/sec)
