StructuralWiki was started by BridgeArt.net in September 2006 to provide a professional oriented wiki for structural and civil engineers.

Goals

Inspired by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, the goal of StructuralWiki is gather and organize information, data, references, and past experience for the structural engineering community.

StructuralWiki and Software Database

StructuralWiki also complements the database of structural engineering software maintained by BridgeArt.net. The database includes only basic program descriptions, list of keywords, data formats and desing codes. Entries are linked to StructuralWiki, where more information is provided.

Information Management

In today's information age, the access to information, and especially the access to the right information is essential. This is especially true for civil engineering as designs are influenced by past experience and past performance. The lessons learned from one's past experince and from the past experience of others are good example of the right information that can have possitive impact on future design. There are several characteristics of this information, most importantly:

• it was developed by many people over a long time

• it can can be found somewhat scattered withing multiple resources, such as: technical reports, text books, design codes, first hand experience, journal articles, news, etc.

The goal of StructuralWiki is to make this information more easily accesible.
