Live load distribution factors are used to determine the proportion of live load that is carried by a single girder on a girder type of bridge. The distribution factors depend on many variables, such as relative deck and girder stiffness, skew angles, etc., and typically provide conservative estimate of load carried by one girder in lie of more complicated analysis, such as grid analysis.
