A plane curve such that the distance of every point in it from a fixed point, called the focus, is equal to the distance of the same point from a fixed straight line, called the directrix. Also the curve formed by the intersection of a secant plane with a cone when parallel to an element of the said cone. Also defined by the equation:


y^2 = 2 p x
